The security region Rotterdam Rijnmond has developed an integrated platform for crisis communication towards the public. It also enables citizens to upload relevant information to the first responders and policy makers that are addressing regional responses. In January 2013 nearly 10,000 people were already signed up for alerting services via SMS, social media or TV. More than 5,000 people have downloaded the application to alarm messages via pop -up screens on PCs to be received. More than 3,700 people have registered for alerts via text messages, 700 people chose email as alarming manner. RijnmondVeilig.nl has also created more than five thousand followers on twitter. Cooperation with Burgernet (website using civilians as ‘eyes and ears’ for the police) is further intensified police. Also during major events RijnmondVeilig.nl can work as a tool for Antibioticspro safety information and crowd management.
