The first round of consultation for the upcoming World Humanitarian Summit recently took place in Budapest, Hungary from the 3-4 February 2015. Organised by the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO), this regional consultation event was attended by 250 members of the global humanitarian community – including relief organisations, industry and aid beneficiaries. Consultees were addressed by the EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, with discussion focusing on how the global humanitarian system could be reshaped in the years to come in the context of increasingly complex and diverse humanitarian needs. The summit’s four principal discussion themes: Effectiveness, Vulnerability and Risk, Innovation, and Conflict.
This event acted as a prelude to the World Humanitarian Summit – a two-year consultation process which will culminate in Istanbul in May 2016.
